Pirates

For a pirate themed Book Club Radio night, I split the story between two characters. For Tinzo, I designed a red velvet captain’s coat, rich and commanding, with gold hand sewn appliqué and anchor-detailed buttons that felt both regal and sea worn. For myself, I went in a completely different direction, an imagined French aristocrat attending a treasure themed ball. I made a mini crinoline dress, keeping the structure but shortening it into something playful and subversive, then drenched everything in gold like I’d been dipped in treasure. I finished it with a sculptural gold wig and a matching hat crowned with oversized ostrich feathers and even a miniature boat perched on top.
